Dangerous consequences: Ireland’s birth rate drops significantly to its lowest level in decades

According to recent EU statistics, Ireland’s birth rate fell precipitously during the previous ten years, reaching its lowest point in more than 60 years in 2022, reports Breaking News.

The Republic’s fertility rate is currently slightly higher than the EU average, having been the highest in the EU for the majority of the years between 1998 and 2011.

The Republic of the Philippines’ fertility rates have dramatically decreased since 2010, with a notable yearly dip of 13.5% in 2022, according to new data released by the European Commission.

Just a year ago, Ireland had the fourth-highest birth rate in the EU; now, it is ranked ninth, reports Breaking News.

Due to a baby boom brought on by the Covid-19 epidemic, Ireland had a five-year peak in fertility in 2021, reversing a decreasing trend in birth rates.

In contrast to the EU average of 1.46, the birth rate in the Republic decreased from 1.78 live births per woman in 2021 to 1.54 in 2022, according to the most recent data, reports Breaking News.

Ireland gave birth to 60,553 newborns in total in 2021; however, the number fell to 54,411 the following year.

In 2008 and 2009, Ireland’s birth rate reached its highest point this century, with 2.08 live births per woman, compared to the 1.57 EU average for the same period, reports Breaking News.
