The death toll in the Bahamas has risen to 30 in the wake of Hurricane Dorian’s devastating visit to the islands, but authorities say that the scale of the destruction has yet to be fully ascertained. The Bahamian Government has admitted that the final death toll will be ‘staggering’, as thousands of people remain unaccounted for.
Dorian, now certified as the strongest storm ever to pass through the Bahamas, carved a path of widespread destruction as it moved on a north-westerly course across the islands. An estimated 13,000 properties have been badly damaged or destroyed.
Dorian, now a Category 2 storm, is currently moving along the US’ southeast coast where it’s likely to cause storm surges and local flooding.
