Decision on using the AstraZeneca vaccine in Ireland expected today

A decision on the roll-out of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is expected later today.

According to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn, further meetings on the continued use of the vaccine are expected this morning and a decision could be made later today.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Glynn said that HPRA are reviewing data and the statement form the European Medicines Agency who recommended that the vaccine should still be used.

The EMA gave the approval after a number of European countries suspended the use of the vaccine following blood clotting fears.
