Description given of man who seriously assaulted woman (20s) while she was out walking on Thursday evening




Social media users have reacted with utter disbelief after news emerged from gardai that a thug viciously attacked a young woman in broad daylight in Dundalk, Co. Louth on Thursday evening.

The serious assault happened at 7:30pm on Thursday evening while a woman, aged in her 20s, was walking on the Táin walk which connects the Newry Road and the Inner Relief Road in Dundalk.

She encountered a thug who approached her from behind and viciously assaulted her.

Thankfully, the woman managed to call for help after the man escaped on foot after he ran off heading north on to the Inner Relief Road (N52).

Gardai say that the suspect is described as being 6ft 2, a dark tanned complexion, aged in his 20s and wearing a grey tracksuit and bottoms. He had a tight haircut with fair coloured hair.

Gardai have warned women to be vigilant following the assault and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information to contact them at Dundalk Garda station on 042 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 66-61-11.

People are advised to share this information with their friends, especially women who go out for recreational walks.
