A large LGBTIQCAP group called ‘Queer Action Ireland’ has pulled out of taking part in this year’s Dublin Pride Parade in protest to gardai participation.
This week, the gardai announced that they’d take part in the Dublin Pride Parada dressed in full uniform for the first time. It has drawn much criticism and debate, especially from criminologist Malachy Steenson who says that gardai should have no role in any political debate, parade or event.
It’s understood that ‘Queer Action Ireland’ are also fuming that the event is in partnership with RTE. It’s also believed that they see gardai participation as not a sign of progress given the fact that this year’s Pride Parade falls on the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
It’s believed that ‘Queer Action Ireland’ is now trying to organise its own parade as an alternative to the main Dublin Pride Parade.
