Fury has erupted on social media as it has been revealed that a huge deal is being negotiated for public sector salaries which will see TDs and Senators get a pay rise of 1%.
According to the Mirror, the deal, which is due to come into effect in February, is being brought in at a time when many businesses all over the country have had to close their doors as a result of Covid restrictions, leading to job losses that have devastated families and communities.
TDs at the moment have a basic salary of just under €100,000. It this pay deal is confirmed, it would come into effect just one year after politicians received a 2% pay rise.
