Scotland’s finance secretary Derek Mackay has quit just hours before he was due to deliver his budget after reports emerged that he messaged a 16-year-old boy on social media.
The Scottish Sun reports that Derek Mackay contacted a 16-yr-old schoolboy over a six-month period, and told him that he was “cute”.
Mackay was married to a woman and has two sons. He since announced that he was a homosexual. It’s undersood that MacKay said he had “behaved foolishly” and took full responsibility for his actions over messaging the boy and apologised.
According to the BBC, Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she did not know about Mr Mackay’s “unacceptable” behaviour until Wednesday evening.
It’s understood that Scottish National Party has suspended MacKay while further investigations are carried out.
