exford politician Verona Murphy has said she will make public her decision on whether or not to stand as an independent candidate in next years General Election by mid-January, RTE has reported.

Murphy had been pilloried in the press and on social media and then deselected by her party, Fine Gael, after she made comments regarding Muslim migrants, saying that some may have to be “deprogrammed” as they may have been “infiltrated by ISIS”.

Speaking to South East Radio, Murphy claimed her remarks on migrants were misrepresented in the media but went on to say that she was privy to security information which gave her concerns and asked “do we have to wait for a London Bridge incident to happen on Wexford Bridge?”

After her remarks during her campaign Fine Gael put a media ban on her which while she accepted the decision said it was meant to “silence” her.
