Donohoe and Murphy say they have full confidence in Simon Harris despite CervicalCheck IT Glitch issue

The Minister for Health Simon Harris has been given backing from both the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe and the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy over the recent CervicalCheck IT Glitch issue.

In statements made in recent days both ministers Murphy and Donohoe have said they have full confidence in Minister Harris and his handling of the situation, but they do acknowledge concerns of those affected by the issue.

The Ministers comments come after it has been revealed that over 50 of the 800 women affected by the US laboratory IT Glitch have tested positive for the HPV virus.

Although Minister Harris has recently played down the recent issue, saying there’s low clinical risk involved, a number of opposition ministers have accused the Department of Health of drip feeding information in regards to the CervicalCheck programme and have urged the Health Minister to clarify his and the Department’s timeline of events.

They also say the issues raised by the latest developments have put further scrutiny on the programme as many women and doctors are losing confidence in the programme.
