Donohoe warns that it is very likely that Covid-19 subsidies will change after 12 weeks

The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has said that changes to Covid-19 subsidies are very likely to happen following the initial 12 week period.

Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland Programme, the Finance Minister said any changes that may occur will be down to the fact of how Ireland’s overall economy is responding to the outbreak.

Donohoe stated that changes would also depend on how the outbreak is being handled.

The Finance Minister said that the State can sustain the subsidies for a long period we can’t sustain them indefinitely.

Donohoe who was responding to the wage subsidy scheme in particular also said that he and the Government are hopeful that some businesses will be to return to normal soon rather than later therefore they wouldn’t need to rely on the scheme as much as they have been in recent weeks.
