Mixed reactions to Varadkar giving the go ahead only to public sector healthcare workers’ partners being paid to stay at home with their children

There have been mixed reactions to the government’s announcements that they’re to give payment benefits to the partners of public sector healthcare workers starting in the coming weeks.

People are saying that the entitlements should be given to both public and private sector healthcare workers as they have children too.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has given the go ahead for healthcare workers’ partners to receive a new stay-at-home payment to mind their children.

The issue has been raised over the last number of weeks as healthcare workers could not stay at home but their children were still off school.

The Taoiseach said that the new measures are approved by National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) and that they will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Varadkar acknowledged that this would only work for public sector households, which no doubt will leave private sector healthcare workers angered.
