A “hammer blow” to the hotel sector ahead of the tourist season has been attributed to Diageo’s plan to raise the price of draught beer starting next month, reports RTE.
Diageo has already stated that the rise will affect all of its on-trade draught products, which include Carlsberg, Hop House 13, Harp, Rockshore, Smithwicks, Guinness, and Guinness 0.0.
According to the statement, the adjustment would cost an additional 6 cents or 9 cents a pint for Guinness 0.0, reports RTE.
The price rises will go into effect on April 15.
“We continue to experience rising input costs across our Irish business operations,” a Diageo spokesperson said, reports RTE.
“In order to offset this, we have advised our on-trade customers that there will be an increase to the list prices on our full draught product range,” the spokesperson added, reports RTE.
