Dublin City Council has today imposed temporary swimming bans at Dollymount Strand, Sandymount Strand and Merrion Strand.

It is understood that heavy rainfall caused an overflow of untreated water at the Ringsend waste water treatment plant, which led to pollution.

The waters at the above mentioned beaches has been deemed unsafe to bathe in for the time being.

It is unclear how long will the ban last for.
