Dublin Fire Brigade have said it could take up to a month before it is determined what caused a fire a Ballymun’s Metro Hotel.

In an announcement today, a spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade said it will take several weeks before they can determine the cause of the blaze that ripped through the top five floors of the high rise building.

They also say a number of forensic tests will have to be conducted in order to determine what started the fire at a private residence OK the 13th floor.

Although everyone successfully managed to escape the building unharmed, Dublin Fire Brigade say the fire which occurred at 8pm on Wednesday evening is one of the worst they have ever had to deal with.

Dublin Fire Brigade also say the fire is in no way similar to the Grenfell Tower incident as there is no issue with external cladding at the Metro Hotel.

The hotel is also expected to remain closed for a number of months as extensive repair work will need to be carried out.
