If there’s one thing that any Irish Government is good at is wasting taxpayer’s money by the bucketload, with little to show for it.

Dublin’s National Children’s Hospital, originally estimated to cost a relatively modest €400, is now well on its way to becoming one of the most expensive buildings in the world, with a conservatively estimated final cost of €2.4bn, and some change.

The project, which commenced in 2018 amidst intense controversy over its urban location, was scheduled to be completed by August 2022. That deadline came and went. As of July 2023, just 27 out of a planned 3,000 rooms are actually completed. May 2024 is now the next supposed deadline, but the utter incompetence and gullibility of the Irish Government will likely mean that the new date passes with no hospital.

Meanwhile, the project’s main contractor, BAM, keeps asking for more money a la Groucho Marx’ famous timber! line.
