Mixed reactions to Molly Martens Corbett and Tom Martens leaving prison

Following the completion of their terms for the manslaughter of Limerick businessman Jason Corbett, Molly Martens Corbett and Tom Martens were freed from North Carolina jail, reports RTE.

After being held at the North Carolina Correctional Institution south of Raleigh, Molly Martens Corbett was freed.

She was driven out of the jail facility with two probation officials in a white vehicle with the North Carolina prison service’s logo on it, reports RTE.

Tom Martens departed the Caldwell Correctional Centre in Lenoir, North Carolina shortly afterward, at around 10.30 a.m. local time.

After his family members picked him up, they drove him away. For the upcoming year, he will be under probation monitoring and resides in Knoxville, Tennessee, reports RTE.

Last October, the father and daughter reached a plea deal with North Carolina prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to manslaughter charges in exchange for the prosecution dismissing murder charges against them.

The Limerick family of Jason Corbett had already expressed their extreme disappointment with the events of today.

In a statement to RTÉ News, the family said: “After a nine-year battle for justice, we are deeply disappointed by the impending release of Tom and Molly Martens,” reports RTE.
