Eamon Ryan says cycling will become the most common way to travel in Ireland

According to Transport Minister Eamon Ryan, Dublin will resemble places like Paris or London where riding is becoming a popular mode of transportation, reports Breaking News.

The head of the Green Party promised to make riding feel comfortable for everyone, saying that walking and bicycling will eventually become the “mainstream form” of transportation in every city and town in the nation.

He said this while joining Minister of State Jack Chambers and Hugh Creegan, deputy chief executive of the National Transport Authority (NTA), to announce €290 million in funding for local governments to help the implementation of walking and cycling infrastructure in 2024.

With investments totalling €1 billion, almost 600 km of infrastructure for walking, bicycling, and wheelchair use have been constructed since 2020, reports Breaking News.

“The money we have been spending – that billion euro we spent in the last four years – it reaches a certain point where it changes things on the ground, it makes it safe to cycle,” the Green minister said, reports Breaking News.
