A 76-year-old cyclist tragically died after a magpie strike in Australia.
The man was riding his bike around Nicholson Park in Wollongong, south of Sydney, when a swooping magpie startled him. He veered off the road and crashed into a fence, suffering serious head injuries. He died in hospital shortly afterwards.
Swooping magpies are native birds in Australia, and may become aggressive during the breeding season.
There have been no fewer than 1,570 magpie attacks in Australia this year so far, resulting in hundreds of injuries.
