The Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton has said the Irish voting public must use their brains instead of voting with emotion in the upcoming general election.

Mr Bruton’s comments come as he also warned that the electorate is “sleepwalking its way” to a decision the Irish people will regret if they opt to elect a different Government.

Whilst speaking at an event in Birr, Co Offaly this afternoon, Mr Bruton told reporters that he is fully aware and understood the anger most voters are feeling about the Government, but he strongly advised the people not to make a bad decision by voting on with angry emotions.

Mr Bruton said: “This in my view is the most important election that I have ever stood in because there is a real danger that Irish voters will sleep walk into making a decision that they will regret for a great number of years to come. “I understand the hurt that people have felt, I can understand the anger, but this is an election where people need to use their brains and not their emotions.

He went onto say: “We have a choice here, we have a choice between a Government that has a track record, that has a proven ability to grow an economy to give dividend back.“We have a contrast then, to other parties who have no plan, whose track record has been dismal and who will not deliver the dividends that are needed,” Mr Bruton said.
