Every worker in Ireland will be entitled to payment worth up to €770 within months

All Irish workers will be eligible for a payout of up to €770 starting in January. Every year, the Statutory Sick Pay Scheme is extended to guarantee that people get compensation when they are unwell and unable to work, reports The Mirror.

Employees will be entitled to seven days of sick pay by January 1, 2025, with a daily ceiling of €110. It follows this year’s rise to five days of sick pay entitlement.

According to RSVP Live, this is all the information you need to know about your eligibility and the maximum amount you may claim, reports The Mirror.

What is the Statutory Sick Pay Scheme, exactly?

The minimal amount of sick pay required by law is known as Statutory Sick Pay (SSP). The right to paid sick leave is being gradually implemented:

One may take sick days in a non-consecutive or sequential manner. The sick pay year, which runs from January 1 to December 31, corresponds with the calendar year, reports The Mirror.

You must get your statutory sick leave benefit at your regular daily rate. Up to a daily limit of €110, you are entitled to sick pay equal to 70% of your usual weekly salary.

Any constant bonus or allowance that doesn’t change from week to week is included in your basic daily salary (excluding commission and overtime). Your sick pay is the average of your salary for the 13 weeks leading up to your sick leave if your pay varies on a weekly basis (for example, as a result of frequent bonus payments or allowances), reports The Mirror.

Who qualifies?

To be eligible for statutory sick pay, you must:

Be an employee
Have worked for your employer for at least 13 continuous weeks before you are sick
Be certified by a GP as unable to work
You can receive sick pay if you are:

On probation
Undergoing training (interns)
An apprentice
An agency worker
