Lucy Letby’s friend publicly insists she still supports the killer, reports The Mirror.
On Monday, child killer Letby was sentenced to an unprecedented 14 life terms for killing seven babies and attempting to kill six others while working in the hospital’s neonatal unit.
A judge at Manchester Crown Court said the 33-year-old had shown “malevolence bordering on sadism” after a “cruel, calculated and cynical campaign of child murder,” reports The Mirror.
Dawn Howe does not want to admit his classmate’s guilt and vows that he will never agree with the jury’s decision. The woman, who grew up with Letby in Hereford, told BBC’s Panorama: “Unless Lucy turned around and said ‘I’m guilty’, I will never believe that she’s guilty,” reports The Mirror.
Letby testified in the witness box for 14 days during the trial, which began in October last year, denying all the charges. She denied that she had done anything harmful to the child and that the sudden fainting and death could have been due to natural causes, unknown causes or the failure of other people to provide proper care.
On Monday, she refused to appear in court for sentencing, during which the victim’s parents called her “evil” and a “coward”.
Judge Goss said he would sentence her at Manchester Crown Court as if she had attended and she would still receive a copy of his address, in any case.
He said: “There was premeditation, calculation and cunning in your actions. Loving parents have been robbed of their cherished children. You have caused deep psychological trauma. You acted in a way that was completely contrary to the normal human instincts of nurturing and caring for babies and in gross breach of the trust that all citizens place in those who work in the medical and caring professions,” reports The Mirror.
