The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published evidence stating immunity following infection of the SARS-CoV2 should be extended to six months, according to RTE.
HIQA’s advice to NPHET has major implications for policies supporting contact tracing, workplace settings and access to healthcare facilities.
Dr. Mairin Ryan the deputy CEO and Director of Health Technology Assessment of the Health Information and Quality Authority’s (HIQA) has confirmed “The risk of reinfection with SARS-CoV2 during that period is very low and no evidence was found to suggest that immunity wanes over this period”
HIQA warned that the advice may not apply to some groups, the elderly and those who are immunocompromised and different variants of the coronavirus have not been tested so their effects are unknown.
