Health experts have predicted that the Irish health system could need to facilitate up to 500 patients in ICU beds per day.
If that happened, the health sector would be under immense pressure and would see all the private hospitals and hotels used that have been earmarked for such a potential disaster.
The peak of the outbreak is due to occur in mid April, according to experts but the trend looks encouraging as Ireland only has roughly 3,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus as opposed to the 15,000 that experts had predicted just two weeks ago.
Today’s figures will be released by the HSE later this evening.
