The sister of an Irish woman who went missing in Portugal three years ago expressed her hope that her sister would be found safe.

Jean Tighe from Cavan was 38 years old when she disappeared after leaving a hostel in Parada, a town 30 minutes from Lisbon, reports RTE.

Since then, her family has been in contact with the Portuguese authorities about the investigation into Jean’s disappearance, but they say it wasn’t straightforward.

This week he was finally added to Interpol’s missing persons database.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Leona Tighe said people who had relocated missing loved ones after years of searching had contacted her family via a Facebook page to give hope that her sister would be found.

Just over 1,000 days ago, Ms Tighe went missing on the afternoon of Monday, July 13.

She was last seen by a hostel worker from the Help Yourself Hostel in the neighborhood. Since then, her family has not seen or heard from her.

It is known that the 38-year-old had a handbag with her, but it was not found, reports RTE.

Leona Tighe explained how the family misses their daughter and sister “dreadfully”, reports RTE.

“We just want to know what happened or where she is. We don’t believe that people just disappear,” she said, reports RTE.
