Father and son rescued in the Australian outback and their friends walk 12 hours to get help

A father and his 10-yr-old son were rescued in the Australian outback after their three traveling companions walked for 12 hours to get help.

They were driving through northwest Queensland on Sunday when their car got stuck on flooded roads.

The group spent the night trapped in the car and the next morning three of them made their way to the next big city, Mount Isa, about 50 km to the west.

A rescue mission was launched after the group reached the police station. They were able to draw the attention of the authorities to the location of their friends on a map.

Shortly before dusk, a helicopter rescue team discovered the father and son sitting on the roof of their car in the middle of the plain and managed to rescue them.

Authorities have praised the efforts of the father and son and their friends.
