The father of the man who stabbed two people outside the former Paris offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine has expressed his pride at his son’s actions.
Zaheer Hassan Mehmood, originally from a village in rural Pakistan, has confessed to stabbing two victims outside the offices of the French satirical magazine last week. He claimed he did so due to the republication of controversial cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad, which sparked outrage in parts of the Muslim world.
According to France 24, his father Arshad Mehmood told reporters that ‘what he did was very good’, continuing to claim that those ‘who kill those who disrespects the prophet goes to heaven, and his whole family goes to heaven’.
A neighbour in the family’s Punjab province community told AFP that ‘the whole village is extremely proud of what he’s done’.
