Fianna Fail refuses to support the scrapping of water charges.
The party will instead table a counter-motion backing the suspension of the charges for a number of months while a commission examines the issue in further detail.
Fianna Fáil agreed to facilitate the Fine Gael-led minority government last month after reaching a deal to postpone water payments for nine months, but they never agreed to scrap the charges entirely.
There’ll be a vote tonight in the Dail to see if water charges should be completely abolished.
Fianna Fáil housing spokesperson Barry Cowen called tonight’s vote “political point-scoring” and called on opposition TDs to instead engage with the water commission to see how they could get the money.
