Fianna Fail’s Jim O’Callaghan was speaking in the Dail to Fine Gael’s David Stanton on Thursday and proposed that Irish families take in asylum seekers into their own home and get paid to do so by the Irish State.

O’Callaghan said:
“People could be paid for taking in and putting up a small family or individuals who are seeking asylum for a limited period. Obviously, they would need to be very carefully vetted. It is an option that we need to consider.”

It’s understood that there has been an increase of more than 50% by migrants who want to live in Ireland, something that the government say they need many more direct provision centres to accommodate the numbers of migrants that they want coming in.
