Swedish police have warned that the country’s capital, Stockholm, is coming increasingly under the control of a Nigerian organised crime syndicate known as the “Black Ax” which is involved in drug trafficking and prostitution.
The gang, often referred to as the Nigerian Mafia, is already known to be operating in several southern European countries, particularly Italy, where thousands of Sub-Saharan Africans are arriving by boat every month.
In the Swedish city of Gothenburg 15 suspects connected to the Nigerian gang were arrested on charges of drug trafficking just last week and police recovered almost €11.5 million worth of illegal narcotics Sveriges Radio reports.
Swedish customs reported that they seized approximately 300lbs of narcotics in total, including 110lbs of heroin.
Lennart Karlsson is the Police intervention manager at the Klara area in Stockholm, said that authorities have noted an increased presence of the Nigerian mafia in recent years. Mr Karlsson said
“The really heavy establishment has been over the last five years.”
The Nigerian mob have already become well known in other European counties, particularly, Italy where they have been linked to drug trafficking, sexual slavery and murderous voodoo rituals involving cannibalism.
