Fine Gael Meath East TD Regina Doherty said today that she was too ‘afraid’ to reveal the names inside the Dáil chamber, so she will hand them into her local Garda station on Friday instead.

According to her, the names belong to eight people who were moved into the country from the North by the IRA, after claims of sexual abuse were made against these people.

Ms. Doherty’s revelation came on the day when the Dáil held a much-anticipated debate about the abuse claims made by Belfast woman Mairia Cahill, who was present in the Dáil’s public gallery.

During her speech, the Fine Gael backbencher read an extract from Cahill’s own statement about her alleged abuse, and also used Dáil privilege to ask Gerry Adams if a suspected IRA militant, Martin Norris, was given cash and a car to ‘help him on his way’ out of the North.
