Fine Gael’s Charlie Flanagan demands “the siege to be lifted in Achill” by migrant protesters

Speaking on to RTE News, the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan appeared to treat the good people of Achill’s genuine concerns for migrants with utter contempt.

Flanagan was commenting on the ongoing protests in Achill at the Head Hotel in Pollagh where a number of migrants are due to housed.

The Justice Minister asked demonstrators to talk with his department to help protect “vulnerable people”.

But many on social media have asked why Flanagan isn’t doing something about the out-of-control homeless crisis where 10,000 Irish people are sleeping rough around the country, in shop doorways, park benches and hotel rooms.

Flanagan insinuated that there’s an anti-immigrant sentiment being whipped up and it wasn’t fair on migrants, but the decent people out day and night protesting totally disagree.

According to RTE, the good people of Achill said that the demonstration is “in no way a siege” and that it is a peaceful silent protest from at least 90% of the village’s population.
