Fitbit has recalled 1.7 million of its Ionic smartwatches used to track steps and other activities due to the risk of batteries overheating and burning users.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a recall notice that it had received just over 100 reports of Ionic users being burned by smartwatches.
A handful of these burns were reported to be second or third degree burns.
People are urged to stop using the recalled Ionic smartwatches immediately.
About a million Ionic smartwatches have been sold in the United States, and about 693,000 more outside the country, according to the release.
Fitbit is offering refunds of $299 each for the recalled smartwatches, which the company had made in Taiwan but stopped production in 2020.
