Five beaches across Ireland lose their ‘blue flag’ status over water quality

Five beaches were unable to retain their Blue Flag status from last year after An Taisce’s water quality deteriorated.

These beaches are Bray South Promenade in Wicklow; Warren, Cregane Beach in Cork; Hunted at Kinvara, Co. Galway; Carrowmore and Clare Island in County Mayo.

Although these beaches did not receive an excellent water quality rating, they did receive a “good” rating based on analysis of samples taken over the past four bathing seasons.

Meanwhile, this year a record 95 beaches and marinas will be awarded the Blue Flag for water quality and the environment in general.
