The grisly incident happened in Florida yesterday.
A man named Mario Gomez called 911 and said his brother Christian had killed their mother and chopped off her head.
When police arrived at the scene, they did indeed find the headless body of Maria Suarez-Cassagne dumped by rubbish bins.
The killer had fled the scene, but was apprehended shortly afterwards. The murder weapon, an axe, was also retrieved.
Christian Gomez, 23, has been charged with first degree murder. According to Florida law, Gomez now faces either life imprisonment or the death penalty.
