Further revelations about how Console’s funds were misused are slowly emerging today.
It is alleged that some credit cards linked to the suicide-prevention charity were used to pay for shopping trips, flowers, and the acquision of Mercedes and Audi cars. There are also questions being raised about a trip to New Zealand and Australia to ‘attend conferences’, all paid with charity money.
Console’s founder and ex-director, Paul Kelly, has now been summoned to the Charities Regulator to discuss these, and many more irregularities uncovered by recent audits of the charity’s accounts.
Console has received over €12m in funding from the State, public donations, and HSE contributions.
