The Minister for Education Norma Foley has said that schools will not close early for Christmas.
Speaking on RTE’s News at One, the Education Minister said that there was a low transmission rate amongst schools (3%) than in the wider community (10 to 12%) and therefore are safe by nature given their controlled environments
Foley also told RTE News that there are no plans to reopen schools later in January as the Department of Education has received no information from public health officials advising them to do so.
The Education Minister added that she believes both parents and teachers want schools to remain open.
