Forget actual criminals – Harris says people scrolling on social media while driving is ‘a real issue’

Drew Harris, the commissioner of police, has stated that it is a “real issue” when people browse social media while operating a vehicle, reports Breaking News.

The commissioner said that 19,000 persons were caught using their phones while driving in the previous year.

Mr. Harris stated that no specific age group was associated with the offence.

“If you’re using your mobile phone, then you are distracted, and events in front of you on the road, as you’re driving along, can change in an instance. So concentrate on the road ahead, put your phone to one side, and certainly don’t look at social media,” he told reporters, reports Breaking News.

“I think that’s a particular problem. People have social media open on their (phones on their) laps and glancing down at it as they scroll through, and that’s causing a real issue,” reports Breaking News.
