Matt Hancock announced on Saturday that he has resigned after breaking his own social distancing advice.
Images of the Health Secretary kissing an aide last month caused a stir in Westminster on Friday, prompting a huge public backlash and widespread call for his departure.
Hancock had previously refused to resign and the Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he had accepted an apology and considered the matter closed.
But in a letter to Boris Johnson on Saturday afternoon, the 42-yr-old Conservative Minister said the government ‘owe it to people who have sacrificed so much in this pandemic to be honest when we have let them down’.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that his wife, Martha Hoyer Millar has left Hancock over the affair. She allegedly told him on Thursday evening that their marriage from 2006 was over.
