A former school janitor sexually abused his daughter at the family home for seven years while her mother was at work, a court heard, reports Breaking News.
A 77-year-old Dublin man has pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to one count of verbally assaulting his daughter and three counts of sexual assault at the family home between 1991 and 1997.
The man, who cannot be named because of the girl’s anonymity, worked as a caretaker at a local primary school for 30 years, the court heard.
A local garda detective, Fiona McGowan, who prosecuted the BLK case, said the abuse began when the man verbally assaulted her daughter while she was preparing for her first Holy Communion.
Over the years, he continued to sexually abuse her at the family home while her mother worked shifts.
“I look at my own children and recognise that it is not normal for a child to be so terrified to go asleep…It is not normal for a child to want to hide in the boot of their mother’s car all night so they won’t be left at home with their father,” the woman said in her victim impact statement, reports Breaking News.
