In one of the most unbelievable stories in 2019 so far, Dundalk woman Lisa Smith has been arrested and is being held in Syria for alleged links to ISIS.
The Dundalk woman worked for more than 10 years in the Irish Defence Forces, including flying on the government jet when Bertie Ahern was the Taoiseach.
According to the Mirror, Lisa Smith appeared in an ISIS propaganda video where she claimed to be British, not Irish but it’s understood that this is indeed the former Irish soldier in the video.
She told ITV: “You come, you see the propaganda, you want Islam, you want to come and live in a Muslim country and environment.
“No music, no smoking, no fighting, no drinking, no prostitution… you want a clean life like this, this is what you want, but sometimes it is not like this.”
It’s understood that gardai were aware of this woman prior to her detainment in Syria.
