Former Manchester United footballer Eric Cantona offers to house a refugee family for up to two years

According to reports it is understood that former Manchester United and French international footballer Eric Cantona has offered to house a refugee family for two years.

The Manchester United legend turned actor has apparently told a French radio station that his grandparents’ experience fleeing war has inspired him to help those currently fleeing their homeland in search of a better life.

Cantona told the radio station: “I’m organising that with authorities in Marseille,” Cantona told France Inter radio on Tuesday, explaining he intended to provide a small house, garden and food. “If you house someone who does not have the right to work, then they need to eat too.” Cantona added: “My maternal grandparents were Spanish Republicans who fled Franco by crossing the Pyrenees on foot. That being our story, it certainly played a role.”
