One of RTE’s most prominent news reporters, Charlie Bird has announced that he has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
The former head RTE reporter said that he knew something was wrong while he was out walking on St Patrick’s Day. He said that he had an uncontrollable cough and his speech wasn’t right.
Bird reported on many of the country’s biggest stories over his 38 years with the broadcaster.
The 72-yr-old has received much support online since he made his announcement.
Recently I spoke about issues with my voice. I now know why.
I have been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Thanks to all my pals for their amazing support. And the kindness from so many people.
Stay safe everyone.— Charlie Bird (@charliebird49) October 27, 2021
