On New Year’s Eve, 100,000 police were deployed across France, the government announced on Monday. The end of the year is generally marked by outbreaks of problems, including the ritual of burning cars. Thankfully this year not too much damage occurred in France.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced Monday that 100,000 armed police will be stationed across the country on New Year’s Eve.

France remains on alert for terrorist attacks after a series of fatal incidents in recent years.

However, Castaner said that the authorities had not identified any particular threat, but that the “high risk” remained in France.
