There was an unanimous vote in France’s parliament last night on the issue of banning supermarkets from discarding perfectly edible food.
Under the new law, supermarket chains will be forced to prevent food waste and donate unsold but edible food to charities, or else use it as animal feed or compost.
The Government will also introduce lessons to school curriculums on how to prevent food waste.
Here in Ireland, it is estimated that about one million tonnes of food are wasted every year.
