French authorities say they believe that the fire which caused ‘colossal damage’ to Notre Dame Cathedral was not a criminal act.
In a statement following the major blaze, thd Paris Prosecutor’s Office said is being treated as accidental destruction by fire.
The announcement comes after the French President Emmanuel Macron said the worst had been avoided the worst despite it being a terrible tragedy.
President Macron said he plans to launch a fundraising campaign to renovate the cathedral.
Before adding that “We will rebuild Notre-Dame.”
An investigation is expected to get underway following the fire, but initial reports suggest that the fire started in the cathedral’s attic.
