French former World Snowboarding champion Juile Pomagalski dies in avalanche

Authorities in France have confirmed that the former World Snowboarding champion Juile Pomagalski has died.

According to BBC News, Pomagalski, 40, was killed after she got swept away whilst skiing in the Canton of Uri, in the Swiss Alps.

It is understood that Pomagalski was skiing with a group of four when the tragic incident occurred.

Authorities say another person was also killed in the incident which occurred on Tuesday.

Pomagalski became a key figure in the sport after winning snowboard cross World Championship in 1999 and then again in 2004.

She also represented France at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and then again at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.
