French police shoot man dead after his ex-girlfriend used “danger phone”

Prosecutors claim that a man who had just been freed from jail for domestic abuse was shot and killed by French police when his ex-girlfriend used a designated emergency phone two weeks prior to asking for assistance, reports RTE.

Prosecutor Eric Mathais said in a statement that the 26-year-old guy opened fire on police when they showed up at a block of apartments in Noisy-le-Grand, east of Paris, yesterday.

The 24-year-old lady had received a special “serious danger phone” (TGD) “urgently” just two weeks prior, he said, and officers were responding to her call.

Prosecutors alleged that when one of them was struck in the forearm, the two cops returned fire, firing four times.

According to a police source, they struck the attacker in the back, buttocks, chest, and carotid artery, reports RTE.

In France, women who have experienced rape or domestic abuse are eligible to receive TGD phones.

If they feel that the lady is in danger, they may quickly call the police by pressing a unique button that links them to an operator.

Additionally, the gadget provides law police with the woman’s whereabouts.

The guy was recently sentenced to stand trial in June, according to the prosecution, for allegedly committing domestic abuse against his former partner over a five-year period, reports RTE.
