Further encampment of migrants tents get set up along Grand Canal in Dublin

Only a few days ago, about 100 tents were evacuated and barriers were placed at another area by the Grand Canal in Dublin. Currently, about 55 tents are pitched on a portion of the canal, reports RTE.

Tarpaulin covers a lot of tents, therefore it’s hard to count them precisely.

There are no fences and the campsite is dispersed among little green spaces on each side of the canal.

In recent weeks, people have set up tents beside the canal as a result of the continuous lack of accommodations for newly arrived asylum seekers in the State, reports RTE.

After about 100 tents were removed from the area as part of a multi-agency operation on Tuesday—the third one in a month—barricades were erected around the canal.

The first was on Mount Street, and the second was on the Grand Canal as well.

According to Minister of Justice Helen McEntee, over the same period last year, there was an almost 200% rise in enforcements and a more than 50% increase in deportation orders signed, reports RTE.
