Further industrial action looms, as Bus Eireann workers have been informed that there is ‘no hope’ of any pay rise

There is a looming threat of further strike action in the transport sector, as unions representing Bus Eireann workers have walked away from talks at the Workplace Relations Commissions without achieving anything their goals.

Unions walked in to discuss pay rises, and walked out with not only the confirmation that none is forthcoming, but also with the knowledge that management may need to ‘restructure’ the service.

Bus Eireann’s Expressway service has been loss-making for some time, and a restructuring of the business is seemingly in the cards.

The possibility of industrial action was made clear by the results of a staff ballot earlier this year, whose results indicated that 94% of NBRU members at Bus Éireann would be in favour of industrial action if the company made changes to the Expressway service.
