A 30-yr-old Dublin man who has been driving for up to 10 years with no claims has been quoted a whopping €6,000 for 3rd party fire & theft.
The quote is just one of many ridiculous figures being thrown out at drivers this year. On average, insurance premiums have risen some 40% in comparison to the last number of years.
Speaking to The Liberal, Peter who drives a 2.0 diesel family car said:
“Last year it was €1,200, this year the cheapest I can find is €2,570, but the €6,000 is by far the worst.”
The €6,000 quote is an incredible 500% increase on his quote from last year.
Peter vented about private companies taking advantage of drivers knowing that it’s illegal to drive uninsured in Ireland:
“It’s disgraceful, how we can protest against household tax and water charges but private companies get away with this daylight robbery”.
With his hands tied, it looks likely that his only option is to pay the 100% increase on last year.
He finished by saying “Where is our government when we really need them?”
